Missed Them Like Crazy

Okay! Okay! Tagalog movies (not all, mind you!) are my guilty pleasure, so sue me! :p

I'm a sucker for romantic comedies and since there's been a shortage of those in international cinema, I've come to appreciate selected Filipino movies.

Some of my favorites are:

  1. Pangako Ikaw Lang (Regine Velasquez / Aga Muhlach)
  2. One More Chance (Bea Alonzo / John Lloyd Cruz)
  3. A Very Special Love (Sarah Geronimo / John Lloyd Cruz)
  4. You Changed My Life (Sarah Geronimo / John Lloyd Cruz)
  5. Now That I Have You (Bea Alonzo / John Lloyd Cruz)
  6. Closer To You (Bea Alonzo / John Lloyd Cruz)
  7. A Love Story (Aga Muhlach / Angelica Panganiban)
I may like some tagalog movies but you'll never get me to watch movies with Kapuso stars most especially Richard Gutierrez!

Besides Kapuso stars, I'll never ever watch a KC Concepcion movie! So you can just imagine shiver at the thought of Richard and KC's movies. Eeks!

Anyhoo, on to better topics!

I watched Miss You Like Crazy over the weekend and I must say, I was really (embarrassingly) excited to watch it. I had been waiting for another John Lloyd - Bea movie. As much as I like Sarah, I was wanting a more mature take and story line from the original movie tandem. I've liked their tandem since they starred in that twin bill movie My First Romance with Heart Evangelista and John Pratts. Although her makeup in that movie was truly horrible (as in dreadful!), the story was really touching. **Giggle** How embarrassing! I cried buckets! :p

Back to Miss You Like Crazy (spoiler alert!):

The story revolves around 2 people who met on the Pasig River ferry. They met by a twist of fate when Alan Alvarez (John Lloyd Cruz) chanced upon Mia Samonte (Bea Alonzo) on the ferry. She was crying and had left a stone on her seat which said "Goodbye World!" Alan naturally thought that Bea was going to jump off the boat and kill herself but was apparently just going out for some fresh air. It was with this meeting that a friendship and soon a romance blossomed. The conflict now arises when Alan falls in love with Mia because he already has a girlfriend, Daphne, played by Maricar Reyes. I won't divulge anymore of the story. I wouldn't want to ruin it too much for you. Let me just say, I wish Maricar didn't sport that ridiculous wig. It just looked bad. :p

Well, I was a bit disappointed with this movie. Maybe I expected to much for a comeback movie especially after One More Chance which is such a cult-favorite. The story itself was good enough but in my humble opinion the transitions were very confusing. The narration was very misleading. I thought that they were exploring an alternate scenario unrelated to the previous scenario. Honestly, they would have been better off foregoing the narration and just going for a text saying "2 Years Later" or something. The script of that one person (the narrator who was apparently the grandson of Yuli(?)) was just plain off. He even had this weird line trying to connect his choosing his new girl over a long time girlfriend with asking Alan Alvarez (John Lloyd's character) to help him decide where to invest his money. I really went like "huh???" That was just plain weird and confusing.

In my humble opinion, the movie doesn't even come close to One More Chance.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars for some weird scriptwriting and direction.
